The former Wynyard captain was best on ground in Saturday’s win over East Devonport, moving the ball forward from centre clearances and doing the in-and- under work around the stoppages.

Smith teamed well with big ruckman Sam Douglas, who collected two votes for his tireless efforts in the ruck.

Douglas notched up one vote in round one, which now takes him to three votes for the season.

East Devonport’s stand- out performer was Brodie Sheahan, who proved a reliable target and found space to run in a bid to keep his side in the hunt, earning him one vote.

Penguin midfielder Rodney King racked up his first votes of the season with a best-on-ground performance in the Two Blues’ first win of the season over Latrobe.

King’s pace and ball gathering with long kicking set up many forward thrusts for the Two Blues.

A seven-goal haul for Brodie Deverell from centre half-forward along with some superb grabs earned him two points, while another stand-out performance from veteran Brad Davis in the ruck for the Two Blues saw him round out the voting.

At Smithton, Scott Bryan stamped his authority on the match by presenting time and time again and giving the home team a reliable avenue to goal to rack up three votes to take him to four for the season.

Arguably the best player on the ground in the second half, Ulverstone’s Cameron Upton found plenty of the ball around the ground and was able to drift forward and kick five goals and secure the two votes, moving him into outright second place on the leaderboard.

Josh Smith again dominated through the middle for the Saints to claim one vote.

NTFL votes will appear in Wednesday’s Advocate for the rest of the season.
